:pointr:From the Ashes of our Misery: A series on hope in the midst of occupation.

Hebron, Occupied West Bank. Summer 2007.

It is a fractured city. Israeli, Jewish settlers in Hebron are considered among the most violent and militant of settlers in the West Bank. The settlers in Hebron are unique because they settled literally in the middle of the city. In many cases simply building settlements on top of Palestinian houses. If you walk through the Palestinian markets in Old City Herbon and looked up, in most areas, you would see metal and rope mesh weighed down by trash, rocks, and other random items. This is as a result of the fact that the Israeli settlers in Hebron find it entertaining to throw rocks and trash and in some cases hot oil and boiling water down on to Palestinians in the markets. There are also a number of Israeli military bases (as pictured) throughout Hebron. The situation in Hebron is quite complex and would take many volumes to explain in detail...

And as of late the settlers around Nablus are vying for the title of cruelest in all the land.
